Dear future grade 6’s.

You are about to have one of the best years of your life! You may have heard other future grade 7’s say that grade 6 is the hardest year. They are right and wrong at the same time. Grade 6 is hard, but thats how you get better. When you do something hard you feel good about yourself and you get better at what you do. If you haven’t been in a split class before, I want you to know that it is more like a combined class. No one is doing something different because they aren’t in the same grade. That’s one of the things that make grade 6 hard. You’re not only learning stuff in your grade but grade 7 stuff too. Now you may be a little freaked out, but it’s ok. You will be prepared for grade 7 and you’ve got all us grade 7’s to help you if you’re stuck. When you walk in the door of your new grade 6/7 classroom, you will probably feel like all the grade 7’s will take over and be mean to you guys. I know how that feels and that it is pretty scary, but we don’t take charge. If we took away the grades you would think that we are all one grade. When you do your work TAKE YOUR TIME! Don’t just rush it so that you’re done. I have learned that if you take your time you feel WAY better about your work. Don’t be scared to ask the grade 7’s and the teacher for help. What I like about grade 6/7 is that we can come to school early to finish our work. What I mean by that is that is that if we want help with work we can come to school early. Take ownership of your work by coming in early. Being in a combined class is fun! Don’t be afraid because there is nothing to worry about. Keep your head up and don’t forget to smile! :)

“Wrap a cast around your heart and sign it ‘they were wrong’ ”

The other day we watched a powerful video called “To This Day”. It is made by an amazing poet named Shane Koyczan. Shane talked about his life, why and how he was getting bullied.  The quote above has motivated me and will stay with me forever.
I am a soccer player and I am really passionate about it. I wanted to go to this thing called “Tryouts”. It is where you go and show these coaches your skills, then if they call you a few days after then you have made it on their team. It is an honor to be on these teams because they are the highest teams in the league. So I decided to tryout for one of the teams. I was told that I have no talent and that I shouldn’t tryout because it will break my heart that I didn’t make it on. I was thinking in my room and considering not going. After I thought about it, I finally decided that I should go. I made the right choice because I did make it on. Since then I was never told that I couldn’t do anything. I took my time and when I was pushed down I slowly got back up.

In this Video, “ To This Day,” I got a lot of different messages. But I think the overall message is “Believe In Yourself”. I got this message because almost everything that he was talking about was about believing in yourself. For example, the quote at the top is saying to believe in yourself. “Wrap a cast around your heart and sign it they were wrong”. It is meaning that people say bad things to you to  try to bring you down. So when they say those mean things like “Retard, spaz, ugly, stupid...”. They will break your heart, so you just have to wrap a cast around your heart. Then you have to believe that they were wrong, then sign it, “They were wrong”. You have to believe in yourself.
From this video I learned a bundle. The two most important things I learned were to believe in yourself, and that my life isn’t terrible. I think that these things are really important. I think that the 2nd one is more important though. Everyone thinks that there life is terrible at some point in life. I have thought that, too. But once you watch this video you will change your mind. What Shane has gone through is just sad. No one my age should ever go through that, even me. But Shane did. The fact that he had to go through that just makes me mad. I don’t think that any kid should have to go through bullying.
The next time you think your life is terrible, look at it and think “Is it really?”

3..2..1 “Happy New Years”. My family said all at once. another year, more memories and more laughter. 2012 was quite the year. But I bet this year will be better. Let me take you on a quick journey of my year.
3..2..1 Happy New Year” that was my family and friends welcoming 2012. Last Dec 31st in Toronto.  I have to say, it was the best party ever! (Man! To be honest I am having trouble remembering) So I will save you time. I’ll tell you my favorite parts of the festive party. Well first off, we turn on the Dick Clark New Years Rockin eve ball drop. This ball drop has been a tradition. I think a tradition in the U.S. That was quite the watching. The T.V in their room was tremendous. For dessert, we had cream puffs. I don’t know why but this dessert and the one I am about to tell you, are the highlights of my night. The other dessert is called ollie bollens. Ollie bollens are a dutch tradition. They are basically donuts. We played crokinole like all night!

“Happy Birthday” Oh hey! That means we are now at my birthday! My 11th birthday was a blast. My mother booked adjoining hotel rooms. I invited 5 of my friends and we partied all night. That included: painting nails, swimming in the pool, watching movies and just socializing.

The next thing I remember is the trip to Lumby. That trip was quite the blast. I am just remembering that was the only car trip (so far) I didn’t puke. I swam in a lake. Not just a lake but a cold, gross lake. This lake was private. Just for the people that were in certain cabins got to swim in it. But the best part was that there were little tadpoles. Some were half frog and half tadpole. We got to hold them. When I held it, it felt so slimy and gross. But it was nice at the end. At the lake there are tons of stuff to do. For example:Row boat, rope swing into the water, go fishing, collect tadpoles (then release them back into the water), play Volleyball in the open field, play in the park, take the path around the lake, bike and many more. One of the things that we did that I will always remember is row boating. I learnt how to row boat. It was quite fun actually. Most people say it hurts their knees or their arms. But for me that didn’t happen. I just felt like a natural. My sister and I had a little competition. My sister is a competitive gymnast and she trains 16 hours a week; so I was kind of scared. I do soccer, so all of my strength is in my legs. So off we went. My mom and I up against my sister and my dad. My sister and I were both steering. At first I was splashing my mom is the face with the paddles. But I got the hang of it eventually. I was in the lead. So I decided to take a break for just a minute. I looked back at my sister who was going in circles. I started to laugh as I put my hands back on the paddles. At the end “It was a tie” (but clearly I won). When we got back to the cabin, my dad got his buddy and went fishing. This actually made the top 3 moments of 2012. My dad was sitting there in the rowboat; next thing you know there is a dragonfly in his face.  So he takes his hand and tries to get it out of his face. The next thing you know he is not wearing his glasses. It turned out that when he went to wave his hand in front of his face, his glasses came flying off and into the lake. The lake was QUITE deep so it was no use diving in. Dad was blind for a few days until he went into town and bought replacement glasses.

Pack your bags and bring your camera because you are going to Seattle. Next we went to see the olympic gymnasts perform. Wow this trip was amazing I bet you can't wait to go on it to. So without further adue buckle up your seat belts. In Seattle the highlight was watching the gymnasts. Everyone be quiet the show is about to start! Usually I don’t like watching people do gymnastics competitions (trust me been there watched that. BORING!). But this little show was  amazing. With the most amazing gymnasts was truly amazing. And I am sure that my sister got inspired.

School time! Back to school! Next it’s time to buy more school supplies! Were going back! School is an amazing place! it’s where everyone shares their way of learning. School is like everyones second home, and your second family. And to make it better for grade 6 I have the most amazing teacher and the most amazing classroom. And even more amazing classmates. well truly I should say my family. Because well...they are my family. Every single one of them! I am looking forward in 2013 to learn and experience new things with my school family.

Welcoming the new year. Well on New Years eve. It wasn’t really that exciting! We went to the movies with friends. We saw a Cirque Du Soleil Worlds away. After the movie we just went home and turned on the Dick Clark New Years Rockin eve ball drop. It wasn’t the same without Dick Clark. I think we all fell asleep and woke up to the count down.

Hello 2013 goodby 2012. We have had some good times 2012, but it’s time to move on.

Happy New Year!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” Christmas is just around the corner. My family is about to bounce off the roof!
Christmas at my house might be just like yours. Others it might not. My family is pretty big on presents. Last year, we had Christmas at my Nana and Papa’s house. The tree was so stuffed with presents, I thought that there would be no room to walk into the living room. We set up this little train under the tree. The train would go around all the presents. On Christmas morning I was excited to look into my stocking. But lets be honest. I was more excited to open up all my presents!
On Christmas eve, We take turns reading one page of “The night before Christmas”. After that My sister and I go outside. We sprinkle this little shiny rainbow reindeer food. We spread it on our lawn so the reindeer know where to land. We leave cookies, milk and carrots. (Carrots for the reindeer). Then we go to bed. When we go to bed I can barely think  straight. My brain goes crazy! Thinking about all these gifts and what they are. Since sleeping is your brain shutting down, I can’t go to sleep because it’s so active. The rule at my house is that we can’t go downstairs without any parents or siblings. The first thing I always do is look into my stalking. That is before I dump it on the ground. After my sister and I look into our stockings, we start with the presents. My dad hands them out and we just tear it open. Then we always go over to our grandma and grandpa’s house. My aunt, uncle and three cousins meet us there. At there house we have a big turkey dinner. After we eat we all open more presents.
What do you do for your Christmas?

“YAY, YAY, YAY ,YAY” I cheered as I zoomed down the stairs in a blink of an eye. “I GET TO GO TO CASTLE FUN PARK!” I was so  excited that I forgot to bring my backpack! So we had to go back and get my purse looking thing because I noticed that I didn’t need a backpack. When we got to the school we didn’t leave quite yet. First we had to play with our little buddies. Mine wasn’t at school so I played scrabble on the ipads, with my friend Mia. The whole game I was trying to hold in my excitement. Then as fast as I could say Mississippi it was time to clean up! Now normally I didn;t like cleaning up but then I was SUPER pumped.  After cleanup we got told who we were driving with. I was driving with my bff’s Nancy drew, Betty cooper and Holly Hills. As we hopped into the van I think that now my excitement was showing and so was my friends excitement. It was a pretty long car ride (considering we missed the exit). As soon as we got there one of the teachers were saying what you can do, the rules and stuff like that. As soon as we finished we went to the mini game section until it was 11:00 o’clock. At 11 we got in line for the go karts. At first I was super scared, especially as we got closer and closer. As I sat down and put my helmet on, my nervousness turned into excitement! The whole way through I had a HUGE smile on my face. You have no clue how fun it was driving an actual moving thing! After the go carts we sat down and had pizza and pop. next we went to the photo booth and took photos of the 6 of us: Nancy, Betty, Holly, Tweety, Lauren and I. When we were done we rushed to the soccer thing where you kick soccer balls at targets. Then we refiled are tickets and went mini golfing in the “jungle”. It was dark and kind of scary! Nancy was almost crying! As we started on the next hole there was an announcement that our school had to go to the tiki room. So we all ran through every course until the last one were we rolled are golf balls into this hole where they disappeared. As we reached the tiki room with a crowd we were being counted. As she finished we got sent off back home. Castle fun park was fun! You should go someday!

“Can I play, can I play?” A mean girl asked Nancy Drew, Betty Cooper and I one recess. As we were about to start are regular soccer game. “Judy I think she is asking you” Nancy said as she drop kicked the ball at the fence. “Yes I think she is” Betty said to me as she ran to greet are friends we've been expecting. Holly, Spongebob, Tweedy and Lauren. I was under pressure and I didn't want to hurt this girls feelings. So being the nice girl (that I am) I of course said “sure”.

Next we made the teams. The teams were Me, Nancy, Betty and Spongebob. Against Holly Lauren, Tweedy and the mean girl. My team got first ball. Betty was in net, Spongebob was defense and Nancy drew and myself were forward. On the other side it was Tweedy in net, Lauren in defense, Holley and the mean girl in forward. Nancy kicked the ball hard and it went into the net. “Whoa” I said. “No one has ever kicked the ball for the first time and into the net!” Then Tweedy passed to Holly and Holley passed it to the mean girl. The next thing you know I’m on the ground.          “Judy are you ok?” Nancy asked me as she ran over to me. “Yeah, what happened?” Nancy pulled me aside and said “it was the mean girl”. Ever since the mean girl hasn't played with us and I have had a BIG bruise on both my knees.

“Mario Kart”

Bowser, Toed, Mario, Wario, Donkey Kong and my favorite Luigi. Tough’s are a few characters from the Wii game “Mario Kart”. Let me take you through the steps of “Mario Kart”

-Step 1. Select your racing card. To make a racing card press the black blank thing and enter your mii character and place your name. What this racing card does is keep track of your racing history, for example if you came in 1st place it will keep track of it. Later on you could earn more levels.

-Step 2. Select the number of players. There is also a option that you and another person can race against people around the world.

-Step 3. Select your player and kart that you will be racing in. You can unlock more players by playing balloon battle or coin runners.

-Step 4. Race by turning your remote sideways and tilting it each direction.

- helpful hint. To get an extra boost hold down 2 when it says 3 let go when it says 2 then hold down when it says 1. To move you have to hold down 2 the hole time and when you run into boxes with a ? mark on it press b to release it.

So go and drag yourself to the game store and buy “Mario kart wii”

Pets are for People because……

“Please, please, please, can we get a dog?”  I asked my father for the 100th, 1000th time.  “NO!” “WHY?” I asked.  “What are pets goods for anyways, some just make a mess” my Dad replies angrily.  “Actually, pets are good for a lot of reasons!”  Let me just get started.

Pets are good for you if you want to show responsibility, ask for a fish and be responsible by feeding it, cleaning its bowl and giving it fresh water.  Then maybe your parents will see that you are responsible and trust you with other things too.  But remember, a responsibility is hard work!

“Oh no, go left, now right”  “CRASH” “Whoops” that is the sound of someone trying to direct a blind fellow but got fired.  Now how will she get around?  Well that’s an easy one, if you had a dog!  Some dogs are known for directing blind people around the house, town and pretty much everywhere.

“News alert, hiker lost on Grouse Grind”.  Other dogs are known for helping search and rescue or crime scenes by using their strong nose.  For example, the car crash and the police want to know if there is any alcohol involved; so the dog sniffs around the vehicle and goes crazy if there is alcohol involved.

“So please, please, please can we get a dog?” “ok fine, but I’m not picking up poop”.

“Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Dad and Gymnast” (My  sister likes being called gymnast) “Happy Birthday to you” That’s the song that ended the CRAZY birthday dinner, let me back up a little............. “Good morning” My dad said to me as he turned all the lights in my bedroom possible on. Is that far enough for you? Well it is or isn’t I guess I’ll continue. I slowly tossed and turned, I looked surprised by the clock, it read “6:40am” I almost blew through the roof! I am NOT the morning kind of person ESPECIALLY  not on weekends. I slowly made my way out of bed and went to the closet to pull out soccer socks, my jersey, under armour, shorts, track pants, shin pads and a jacket that on the back read “Central City Breakers”, when I was done I slowly made my way 1 step at a time to get my cleats on. When I finished my father rushed everyone out the door in the 0 degrees weather. We all hopped into the car. It took a total of 30 mins to get there all because the car crash that happened at night, so we had to go around so we went into an ally and then when it came to an exit we noticed that the road was still closed so we kept going until we made it around. It turned out that we were the first ones there so we went to Tim Hortans and I got a chocolate chip muffin, theirs are the best. Then when we made it back to the field I got out of the car shivering and gathered with my team. (I’ll skip some more because the soccer game is boring so I’ll skip to when we got home after the soccer game) When we got home from soccer I rushed into my bedroom and covered myself in all my sheets I never have felt so cold in my life! (besides my camping trip a couple of years ago but thats a different story) I decided to have a nice warm shower. After the shower I got dressed up (not that fancy) and waited at the door because no one was at our house yet. Grandma and Grandpa were the first ones here, they got here at 3:30. Then my Uncle and Aunt and 3 cousins came shortly after like 4:00. They came in and got settled and My sister, cousins and I played mousetrap in the basment(I lost). Then My mom said we didn’t have enough food so we orderd pizza and all the kids ate pizza. after that my sister opend gifts and she got an I pod case, portable speakers, nail polish and 50 dollars. Then My dad opened his gifts, he got a caesar maker. Then we ended off singing and having chocolate cake. I can’t wait for my Birthday!

“She shoots The ball is slowly making it’s way into the net and and and......... Its in!!!!!!!!! GOAL for Chaos which now makes the final score 6-1!” Want to read more? What kind of a question is that? Of corse you do! who wouldn’t? So I guess ill start in the morning! I woke up to the screaming of my sister, mother and father “ GET UP” but of corse I don’t get up, it was sunday no one wants to get up at the crack of stupid just to go out in the freezing cold and play a soccer game, it was so cold outside that you could see that little cloud and you know right away that it’s soccer season! As we were in the car I thought that I was going to fall asleep, I was as tired as a person that hasn’t gotton sleep in 200 decades! as we aprouched the soccer field I was excited and then posetive that we would beet this team and boy did we ever!!! As the team started to show up for a warmup before the game I lost a bit of confedince because of my teamates faces looked extreamly tired and they where walking like zombies waking up from the dead! Then before we know.... “TWEET” the wistle blew so we huddle up and screamed on the tipity top of our lungs “1-2-3 CHAOS!” and we all scerried onto the feild, I ran into my useale position goalie. As the wistle blew and the first touch on the ball was made we were more awake then I thought we were and somehow maneged to get 4 lucky goals in the back of the net in  the first half ; then the wistle blew and that was the end of the first half of this game and the score was 4-0 for us!!! As we were eating ornges at halftime my coach said 1 sentance that I was so surprised to hear (consittering that I am a fulltime goalie); and thoughs words were “Judy take your goalie stuff off your going to be up in forward scoreing goals” It was AMAZING! It was so fun! I never scoared a goal but it was fun being out of the net. There was 20 secounds left and we were winning 6-0 and then the referee had the whistle in his mouth all ready to blow then the back up goalie on our team let one silly goal in just because she thought the whistle blew! So pasicly we won 6-0 but we won 6-1. We still won and we had fun! If you play a sport then good luck and remember that it doesn’t matter if you win or loose just have fun!!
