I have finished my poetry project and presented it in the shape of a book. The types of poetry I did were Sensory poem, Haiku poem, Character poem and Concrete poem.  The learning intentions I was following for each poem are:

Character poem is written with a persona other than that of the author. The speaker could be
another person, a fictional character, a machine, an object, an animal.

Sensory poem uses vivid words to create a sensory impression in the readers mind. Stimulates
more than one sense that the reader can see hear taste smell and feel the subject being
described.

Concrete Poem is a poem whose meaning is conveyed through shape or
pattern on the page.

Haiku Lines 5,7,5 syllables.

What I learned (Below)

I learned a number of new things and tips in the process of poetry. But there were about three things that really popped out at me that I really never knew before.  One was all of the poetic devices. I only knew Similes and Personification at first. But know I also know Alliteration, Metaphor, Onomatopoeia and Rhyme. All of the poetic devices really helped me improve in my writing. It made me go deeper. For example if it was cold then instead of saying it’s cold you could say it is as cold as the Arctic ocean. See the difference?
The other thing that really was floating in my mind as I was writing poetry is that “There is no right or wrong in poetry”.  When I first started this poetry unit, I thought that it had to be rhyme. If it didn’t rhyme then it wasn’t poetry. But poetry is where you can express your feelings. Well I guess to express your feelings in some types of poetry. Like if you are doing Character poems I guess you can’t express your feelings. Because in Character poetry you have to take a living or nonliving thing and pretend that you are it. Character poetry is my favorite. I like to add some comedy to it.

But after this unit was finished I learned more about myself. I learned that really understand how to do Character poetry. This unit was fun and Unique. I loved doing this unit because of how unique you can be.
